Dan Pomeroy

Coon Rapids, Iowa

When Dan Pomeroy was a UI student, he became a major Hawkeye fan. His work in student government helping with the planning for the Carver-Hawkeye Arena project deepened the attachment.

By the time Pomeroy graduated in 1981 with a B.S. degree from the College of Pharmacy, his love for the Hawkeyes had become a passion that will last a lifetime. In fact, he has long been active in the I-Club, including as a member of the organization’s national board of directors.

Pomeroy drives three hours each way for home football and basketball games from his home in Coon Rapids, Iowa, where he owns and operates the Coon Rapids Pharmacy, and he has attended almost every UI bowl game. The tailgate parties that he and his friends have before UI home football games are a high point of each year for him, a time of coming together in support of the black and gold.

For Pomeroy, being a Hawkeye fan is a way of life. And he’s quick to point out that his responsibility as an Iowa supporter goes beyond buying tickets and cheering until the walls and rafters ring. Pomeroy believes that a loyal Hawkeye fan needs to show financial support as well, and he’s answered the call by contributing to the I-Club for almost 20 years.

“There’s no way fans can support an athletics program just on ticket sales. Scholarships and other necessities are so expensive—and so important. By giving to the I-Club and special campaigns, I feel invested in the program, like I’m a part of it,” Pomeroy says.

Summing up his heartfelt generosity, this diehard Hawkeye fan says, “The UI gave me an invaluable experience as a student and I have a great career because of it. Now I have a responsibility to give back.”
